    2019 Guest Speaker

    Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are writing to make you aware of the latest internet issue that may be negatively impacting your children.

The "Momo Challenge" is a frightening-looking female character that is said to appear in some YouTube, WhatsApp, Facebook, and other social media applications. It is claimed that these videos "pop up" while a child may be watching a safe and age-appropriate video.  This character challenges children to hurt themselves and others.

Though experts cannot confirm specific occurrences, this is an opportunity for us to highlight the need for the appropriate supervision of technology and social media.

Some useful tips for keeping children safe while using the internet at home:

    • Keep computers and smartphones in highly visible areas or rooms.

    • Create an acceptable use policy at home that supports school policy.

    • Encourage device safety for passwords & sharing personal info.

    • Set limits for how much time is spent on devices.

    • Be alert to signs of unhealthy online relationships or predators.

Below is a link that may be helpful to you regarding this issue with some additional information.
